Beautiful Hagley Park

In the New Zealand city of Christchurch, Hagley Park was established in 1855 by decree of the government from the wonderful province of Canterbury. Its territory of 164.637 hectares is the largest open urban space and is considered a public park. There are indeed many large open spaces and wooded areas in Hagley Park.
Regarding the boundaries of the park, which are located in the urban center of Christchurch, they are defined by the roads surrounding this wonderful park and the channel of the beautiful River Avon. In the west of the park runs the longest and precisely the land border of this park along Deans Avenue, adjacent to the suburb called Riccarton.
In general, the Avon riverbed surrounds the park, both from the east and from the north. And to the southeast and south of the park are Hagley Avenue and Moorhouse Avenue, respectively. In the east of the park, for almost 1 km, the wonderful Avon River flows from north to south, after which its course bends to the west, i.e. deeper into the park, forming a 2-kilometer loop on its territory. And inside such a loop, the Christchurch Botanical Gardens with an area of more than 21 hectares are located, which are connected to the rest of the park by various bridges. In these gardens you can admire a rich collection of trees and flowers from all over the world. In addition, these gardens serve as an excellent attraction to the park for all kinds of birds, which visitors can also watch with interest. Inside the loop is also the Canterbury Museum, as well as Christ's College.
The park is divided into 3 parts by 2 main alleys. South of Harper Avenue, Little Hagley Park is located in the north of the park. Its area is almost 7 hectares. Also, a little more, with an area of just over 87 hectares, there is also North Hagley Park, where you can see the not very large Lake Victoria, as well as a golf course. And to the south of it is the South Hagley Park with an area of 70 hectares. By the way, Riccarton Avenue runs through it.
After the park was opened in the 19th century, there were some fun equestrian competitions for visitors. Huge groups of different people also gathered in the park during the period when the Great Industrial Exhibition (1882) was held here, as well as the International Exhibition (1905-1906). Now all kinds of concerts (outdoors) and exciting circus shows are often held in Hagley Park, and an international flower show called Ellersley.
